So I get an installer show up this morning for the new flash player after installation and testing of my site. It appears SWFobject is not working in IE anymore. But it still works fine in everything else.
You're site shows up with 'This text is replaced by the Flash movie.' in IE now. Even though I have the newest version. An installer appeared when I first booted up for the new flash, but this new version has ruined swfobject in IE for the moment. This only started right after my flash player was upgraded.
OK, but it seems this problem only appears when you update flash player with the "reboot-alert" that pops up automatically from Adobe. I uninstalled that one and then went ahead to a site I know uses Flash, accepted the "Install Flash Player" dialog and after that everything works fine. In other words, it makes a difference on HOW you update your flash player.
The bug comes from the newest automatic Microsoft updates for Win XP. I've noticed it on quite many major sites and testes on several computers. Those that have not yet been updated with the latest Win XP patches access the site fine. Those that have been patched seem to fail when the site checks the flash plugin version in IE 7.
This is tested on sites using both swfObject and the Adobe runActiveContent solution.

He is right. I am a Web designer and after a windows update tonight all pages using swfobject stopped working unless I add the code "?detectflash=false" into the address bar. This problem has even rendered a major site like www.fox.com unusable in IE7.
I uninstalled the latest windows update by using system restore. Then I completed the windows update again, and everything is working correctly. It must have been a screw up on microsofts part.
I am having this same problem with my site. It is KILLING me. It is a LIVE site with visitors from all over the world and 99% Windows users. I can't figure out what the problem is. Sometimes it works in IE but not Firefox, sometimes the other way around, sometimes not at all, and sometimes works fine in all browsers. My URL is s t v e r dot com
I have same problem and found the solution : Class "ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash" disappear from regestry. New flash installation probable deleted it and insert "ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9" class which not tested by swfobject.js Simple solution (works for me) is creating needed entry in registry. Please copy following text to flash.reg file and doubleclick on file for registry insertion.
